Taipei, Capital of Taiwan ðŸ‡¹ðŸ‡¼

From Temples to Hot springs, Taiwan is the most beautiful city one can experience. The Best weather, Excellent public transport system. It was always in my mind to pen about this country , as it was a very different from rest of south east asian countries.

We prepared itinerary for 4 nights 5 days.We travelled in Month of March, which is best time to visit Taipei, it’s a non peak period, Freezing cold weather( if you want to experience cold). As it is non peak period all tourist attractions places are less crowded and also one can get cheaper flights compared to peak period. There are no direct flights from India. Singapore is transit country to reach Taiwan.

We travelled along with 18 months infant. The duration of flight from Singapore was 4h 15m.

We reserved our hotel in the city centre where all metro stations connect, it is called Taipei main station. They have the best MRT services which connect to all tourist attraction and which is effortless to travel with babies along with strollers. Taipei is stroller friendly except few night markets.

Day 1: We planned our day starting from Gondola ride. But unfortunately we changed our plan as Gondola rides are closed on Monday. We visited Lungshan temple of Manka. It’s a historic Buddhist and Taoist temple. Very near to Taipei main station and is accessible through Metro. The temple had very beautiful architecture.

We then visited ximeneding night market. This night market is quite expensive and is suitable for window shopping. Taipei has many night markets. This night market is walkable from city centre.

This night market is in heart of city and it is only 500 metres from Taipei main station and it was walkable from our hotel.

Day 2: We started our day little early as we planned to visit Yangmingshan National Park. It is a beautiful picturesque area either it’s good for hiking or can be reached via Bus. As they have very good bus facility till top of Yangmingshan National Park : It is a beautiful picturesque area either it’s good for hiking or can be reached via Bus. As they have very good bus facility till top of the mountain. This is the best view we could get from yangminshan visitor centre as the weather was cloudy and was freezing(11 degree).

After yangminshan we visited Tamsui’s Fishermen wharf,It has a very beautiful sunset view but unfortunately weather was not good and we missed Sunset but the location was astounding. It will take around an hour from taipei main station in MRT.

Day 3: We planned to visit juifen and Shifen on same day as they are very far from city, no frequent buses or MRT. So we decided to hire a cab for a day tour which is far from taipei. We visited yehliu geopark, it is one of the best geopark as this has a rock formation, big waves, scenic beauty. This can be reached on the way before jiufen and shifen. Geopark has many rock formation which is similar to queens head and inside a geopark they have a spectacular sea view .

About 15 minutes from yehliu, the best old street to visit is jiufen. Juifen old street is meant for shopping but it’s not stroller friendly and always crowded with tiny roads so it’s always better to carry infant or toddler than allowing them to walk.

From jiufen to shifen we need to travel around half an hour to reach the breath taking view of waterfall. It’s about 20 min walk from parking area to waterfall. They have many spots from where you can capture waterfall in different views.

shifen alsohave night market due to time frame we couldn’t visit. After travelling about 2 hrs it was time to visit marvellous and famous building Taipei 101 it is a financial centre with 101 floors and has a beautiful view of Taipei. After a hectic day we reached our little late and plan for our next day was ready.

Day 4: We took MRT from Taipei main station and about it took about half an hour to reach Maokong. This is suitable for mountaineering either taking gondola ride or bus or taxi. This place is famous for gondola ride and also has a Buddhist temple on top of mountain .

We took a taxi from the top of maokong to MRT station as it takes around 15 min in taxi but takes about 45 min in gondola ride back and also we had a flight to catch.

These are some of the best places and stroller accessible as we were travelling with infant. There are many other places where they have best scenic views but they are not stroller accessible. Travelling with infant seems very comfortable in these countries as they are stroller friendly and only we need to have additional time as should be ready with preventives.

The main drawback in Taiwan is language as they cannot understand minimum English. So one should be always ready with Google translator and another drawback is Food(as we were vegetarians), hardly we find vegetarian food. There are few Indian restaurant which is not worth trying and also very expensive. Though they have few drawbacks it’s worth visiting this beautiful country and indulge in nature of Taiwan.

Happy Vacation!!!
